Worship

Pursuing a lifestyle of loving, trusting, honoring and enjoying God

What is Worship?

Responding to Romance

In worship we respond to the loving advances-the “Romance” of God towards us. In fact, worship encompasses our whole lives, for the only appropriate response to God’s mercies in Christ would be to offer ourselves totally as “living sacrifices” to God! (Romans 12:1-2)

Outfitting for the Journey

Corporate worship is the defining activity and primary witness of the church. In corporate worship, we arrive from the mold-press of the world and into an environment that re-forms us to a greater Reality. Although we “come as we are” to worship services, the message, sacraments, music, words and interaction are all designed to build our new identity in Christ and send us out as change-agents and signs of God’s kingdom in the world.

Non-Self-Help

How does change happen? God does it! It is impossible to truly be in God’s loving presence and not be changed. Since we are mostly aware only of our activity in worship, we sometimes are unaware that it is actually God who is the active agent, romancing us and changing our hearts. That’s why we try to focus not so much on the “I” or even “we” of worship as on the “You” of God and his mighty acts of salvation.

The Celebration of a God-ward Life

Ultimately, worship is not a Sunday morning event. Rather, the Sunday event is meant to give expression to a whole life of worship. It is a Sunday through Saturday lifestyle of loving, trusting, honoring and enjoying God. Anytime we connect with Christ we are worshipping God. That is why “connecting to Christ” is the most important part of our mission statement and the first priority in our life as a body.
