Discipleship

Connecting to Christ by learning to follow Him

What do we mean by “Discipleship”?

At Bridgeway, we see discipleship as a relational learning process in which people are encouraged, equipped and challenged in love to become fully devoted followers of Christ. Discipleship involves much more than being stamped with a Christian “label”, knowing all the right answers or even doing the right things.

While these three areas of being, knowing and doing are essential for a balanced life, they all point to a deeper reality- the reality of “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). It is this hope- Christ in us- which is the true nature and goal of discipleship.

How do we accomplish discipleship?

Community Groups

Because discipleship is a process of being transformed by the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2), our community groups have a significant component of group study based upon God’s word. The content may vary from straight Bible study to book discussions and video-related material, but the basis is always biblical.

Because discipleship is relationally-based, we believe that the primary vehicle for discipleship is our community groups, in which each partner is called upon to exercise their spiritual gifts for the good of the others (I Corinthians 12:7). We encourage everyone to join a group, learn, grow and experience new life together!

Sunday Morning Discipleship Hour

In Discipleship Hour, we experience Bible-based teaching on an in-depth basis. We are currently enjoying studying the book of Hebrews, as taught by Tim Ehrhardt. This class meets in the break-room at City Hall Auditorium at 8:45am on Sunday mornings. We invite you to come and enjoy!

Men’s Bible Study

This is a small group that gathers for breakfast, Bible study and prayer. We are presently studying the book of Revelation. We are an open fellowship that welcomes newcomers. We meet at Hyvee East in the cafeteria, 6:30 on Friday mornings. It’s early, but very worthwhile! For more information, please contact Eric Ishimaru at eric@bridgewayofames.org, or contact the Bridgeway office.

Perspectives

Perspectives is a life-changing, twelve- week course offered every January at a sister church to anyone who wishes to enroll. Because God has called us to be a “sending” church, we count it a privilege to promote and see numbers of people graduate from the Perspectives course. For more information, check out www.perspectives.org, or contact the Bridgeway office for the Ames-area event.

Occasional Teaching/ Outside Training Events

As the Lord leads, we schedule special instruction/ training events for the church, from time to time. Watch our website for any news of upcoming events.
